Finaliza el 40 Congreso de la CIESM con una importante participación del IEO

Del 28 de octubre al 1 de noviembre tuvo lugar en Marsella (Francia) el 40 Congreso de la CIESM, que se celebra trianualmente y que es la organización que reúne, desde su creación en Madrid en 1919, la comunidad más numerosa e interdisciplinar de investigadores en ciencias marinas del Mediterráneo y Mar Negro.

En esta ocasión se alcanzó una participación de 890 investigadores y estudiantes pertenecientes a los 23 países miembros de la Comisión, incluyendo a Rusia, que se adhirió formalmente a la Comisión el pasado 4 de octubre.

En total se presentaron 760 comunicaciones, además de celebrarse varios paneles sobre temas prioritarios en las agendas de diversas agencias internacionales de investigación y asesoramiento. Como hasta ahora, todas las comunicaciones serán incluidas en la publicación 40th CIESM Congress Proceedings, además de poder visionar en breve los paneles en la web del Congreso.

Como en cada edición, se eligieron por votación de los asistentes los presidentes de cada uno de los seis Comités entre los candidatos que se presentan a los mismos para el próximo período intercongresual de tres años, siendo elegida copresidenta del Comité de Ecosistemas Marinos y Recursos Vivos para el Mediterráneo occidental la investigadora del Centro Oceanográfico de Baleares, Salud Deudero.

Entre otros asuntos tratados por el Board Meeting, que presidió hasta ahora el Príncipe Alberto II de Mónaco y lo forman los delegados nacionales con la asistencia del Director General de CIESM, el Príncipe continuará como presidente de la Comisión durante otro período de seis años, y el próximo Congreso se celebrará en Marruecos en 2016.

Por parte del IEO asistieron siete investigadores de los centros oceanográficos de Málaga, Baleares y Madrid, además de cuatro licenciadas que acaban de realizar estudios de posgrado en el IEO.
