CV Summary

Marine Biologist and PhD on Marine Sciences, main research topics are coastal ecology, invasive species, amphipods, marine protected areas, benthic sessile invertebrates, marine biodiversity and vulnerable species under anthropic impacts threatened into the coastal zone.

I started the postgraduate research in the Department of Marine Sciences and Applied Biology at the University of Alicante (Spain). I developed my PhD Thesis about the effects that invasive seaweed Caulerpa cylindracea causes to the Mediterranean benthic community, specifically on amphipods and higher trophic-level taxa. While doing the thesis, I participated in several research projects focused on the study and evaluation of several protected benthic invertebrate species included in Barcelona Convention at Site of Community Importance (SCI) and Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in several places throughout the Mediterranean Sea. Moreover, I participated in the EU Water Framework Directive through the monitoring of macrophytes and sea grasess (Posidonia oceanica). Since 2011, I have been working at the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (Centro Oceanográfico de Baleares-IEO) involved in diverse national and international projects about the conservation and monitoring of benthic populations, acquiring a strong background on sessile invertebrates, such as the endemic bivalve Pinna nobilis, and anthropogenic impacts on coastal ecosystems. Recently awarded with a postdoctoral contract cofunded by the Regional Government of the Balearic Islands and the European Social Fund 2014–2020, working in the IMPACT@SEA research group supervised by Dra. Salud Deudero.

Wide experience designing and developing scientific projects and studies, as well as coordinating field samplings and surveys on-board and by scuba diving. Strong knowledge on data management, statistical analysis and writing reports and papers. Published 35 scientific peer-reviewed papers at international ISI journals on marine ecology. Participation in 29 research projects, in one as main researcher, 63 works presented at national and international conferences. Teaching experience at Biology and Marine Science degree (UA), postgraduate Master courses (Marine Sciences UA; Marine Ecology UIB; Analysis, Planning and Management of Coastal Areas UIB); but also in courses and seminars for university and high school teacher training. Direction of one PhD thesis (another ongoing), one bachelor’s thesis and six master’s thesis. Regular reviewer of scientific papers.
