Raúl Rodríguez i Pérez was born and raised in the fishing town of Blanes (Girona, Catalunya). He obtained his degree in Marine Sciences from the University of Barcelona (2020) and, subsequently, completed a master's in Marine Ecology at the University of the Balearic Islands (2023), with distinction.

Throughout his academic career, Raül has participated in various research projects, covering different areas of knowledge. At the Centre for Advanced Studies of Blanes (CEAB), he took part in the PLAYA+ project, under the direction of Dr. Rafa Sardá. He also contributed to the ECO_Reactor and eLTER projects, led by Dr. Esperança Gacia. At the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA), he was part of the CLOCKS project, directed by Dr. Pep Alós, where he completed his master’s thesis entitled “The metabolic pace-of-life syndrome of Xyrichtys novacula Linnaeus, 1758”, which was awarded the Càtedra de la Mar prize by the Iberostar Foundation.

In his professional career, Raül worked at the University of the Balearic Islands during 2022-2023 as researcher on the project MARFISH (A multidisciplinary approach to assess the responses of fishing resources to protection), under the supervision of Dr. Francesc Ordines, IP of the project. The aim of this project was to study, using biochemical and molecular genetics techniques, the conservation status, life cycle, and nutritional quality of fishing resources, as well as the mobility and connectivity processes between protected areas and fishing zones in the Mallorca Channel. He also participated in a MEDITS cruise, an international bottom trawl survey in the Mediterranean.

In January 2025, he joined the Group of Ecosystem Oceanography (GRECO) at the Balearic Islands Oceanographic Centre within the SPICES project (Marine functional and taxonomic diversity hot-SPots: Ibiza and MallorCa channels), funded by the PRTR funds of the Balearic Government (ref. BIOPRO2024-017), led by Dr. Eva Sintes.

Raül Rodríguez i Pérez va néixer i créixer al poble pesquer de Blanes (Girona, Catalunya). Va obtenir el seu grau en Ciències del Mar a la Universitat de Barcelona (2020) i, posteriorment, va completar un màster en Ecologia Marina a la Universitat de les Illes Balears (2023), amb distinció d´honor.

Al llarg de la seva carrera acadèmica, Raül ha participat en diversos projectes de recerca, englobant àrees de coneixement diferents. Al Centre d’Estudis Avançats de Blanes (CEAB), va participar en el projecte PLAYA+, sota la direcció del Dr. Rafa Sardá. També va contribuir als projectes ECO_Reactor i eLTER, liderats per la Dra. Esperança Gacia. A l’Institut Mediterrani d’Estudis Avançats (IMEDEA), va formar part del projecte CLOCKS, dirigit pel Dr. Pep Alós, on va completar la seva tesi de màster titulada “The metabolic pace-of-life syndrome of Xyrichtys novacula Linnaeus, 1758”, que va ser guardonada amb el premi Càtedra de la Mar per la Fundació Iberostar.

En la seva carrera professional, Raül va treballar per la Universitat de les Illes Balears durant els anys 2022-2023 com a personal investigador en el projecte MARFISH (A multidisciplinary approach to assess the responses of fishing resources to protection), sota la direcció de l’investigador principal Dr. Francesc Ordines. L’objectiu d’aquest projecte era estudiar, mitjançant tècniques de bioquímica i genètica molecular, l’estat de conservació, el cicle vital i la qualitat nutricional dels recursos pesquers, així com els processos de mobilitat i connectivitat entre àrees protegides i zones obertes a la pesca al canal de Mallorca. També va participar en la campanya MEDITS (International Bottom Trawl Survey in the Mediterranean).

Al gener de 2025, es va incorporar al grup de recerca (GRECO) del Centre Oceanogràfic de les Illes Balears dins del projecte SPICES (Marine functional and taxonomic diversity hot-SPots: Ibiza and MallorCa channels), finançat amb els fons PRTR del Govern de les Illes Balears (ref. BIOPRO2024-017), dirigit per Dra. Eva Sintes.

"Projecte BIOPRO2024-017 de biodiversitat de la convocatoria BOIB núm. 49 de 13 d'avril de 2024 finançat en el marc dels Plans Complementaris (component 17) que formen part del Mecanisme de Recuperació i Resiliència (MRR) i del Pla de Recuperació, Transformació i Resiliència (PRTR), finançat mitjançant recursos derivats de l'instrument europeu de recuperació (Next Generation EU).
