Short CV Valentina Fagiano is a pre-doctoral researcher, awarded in 2022 with a pre-doctoral fellowship by the regional government of the Balearic Islands, within the IMPACT@SEA research group at the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC). Her research is focused on the distribution, and composition of marine plastics, particularly fibers, in various marine compartments, as well as on the ingestion and the ecotoxicologically consequences marine plastics have on marine species, particularly on zooplankton communities. Valentina Fagiano graduated with a Bachelor of Biotechnology from the Universitá degli Studi di Torino in Italy (2006). She also holds two Master’s Degrees, one in Molecular Biotechnology from the Universitá degli Studi di Torino in Italy (2008) and the second in Marine Ecology from the Universitat de les Illes Balears (2020). She is developing a doctoral thesis in the field of marine ecology specializing in microplastics and their interactions within the coastal marine environments, at the CSIC-COB-IEO under the advisory of Salud Deudero and Carmen Alomar in the research group IMPACT@SEA. She has participated in nationally and internationally funded projects focusing on understanding and quantifying plastic pollution in the marine environment (Plastic Busters MPAs, Acuiplastic, Aqua-Lit). Her main research interests include the study of distribution and composition, with a focus on polymers, of marine microplastic and fibers, and their interaction with marine fauna. ![]() Update in July 2022 |
