Research Professor Salud Deudero. PhD in Biology (Spain, 1998), MsC in Fundamental and Applied Marine Ecology (Belgium, 1993). Co-chair of CIESM Committee on Marine Ecosystems and living resources (www.ciesm.org).

Permanent researcher at the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO, www.ieo.es) main research lines are in coastal ecology focusing on food webs (stable isotopes), invasive species, marine protected areas, contaminants effects on marine biota, marine biodiversity, vulnerable species focusing on anthropic impacts into the coastal zone and interactions of marine litter, mainly microplastics, with biota (fish elasmobranchs, crustaceans) and response of biota to the ingestion of microplastics. Identification and analyses of microplastics in environmental compartments (coastal sediment). Experience on scuba diving surveys, stable isotopes analyses, biomarkers and marine litter analyses.

Professor at the University of Balearic Islands (Spain) and at several postgraduate Masters on Marine Ecology (UIB); Master in Global Change (UIMP); Master on Analysis, Planning and Management of Coastal Areas (UIB). Advisor of 6 PhD thesis, 9 bachelors thesis and 15 masters thesis.

Last research projects dealing with anthropogenic effects on the coastal zone has been accomplished. The group is mainly focused on littoral ecology issues with expertise in underwater sampling and field studies (assessment of benthic communities). In the last year, work has been carried out on the interaction of marine species with marine litter at the COB-IEO.

Researcher at Marine Biology Lab UIB (2001-2008). Postdoctoral researcher at Newcastle University (UK, 1999-2001). Dra Deudero performed her PhD thesis on trophic relationships of fishes at FADs, based on stomach contents analyses and zooplankton composition. Published more than 86 scientific per-reviewed papers at international ISI journals on marine ecology. Participation in 32 research projects, principal investigator of 16 projects at national and international level. Attended to 28 conferences. Regular reviewer of scientific articles, projects and fellowships for Spain, Portugal, Italy, Egypt, Argentina, Chile. Visits and stages at foreign research centers (Bermuda, Belgium, England, Brazil, Italy, Argelia). Participation at several international expert committees: marine spatial planning and coastal management (ICES), panel member for the assessment of indicator Invasive species for European Marine Strategy, FAO consultant-GFCM, Member of the biodiversity core group of the Ecosystem Approach UNEP-MAP. Invited key speaker at international level (Argentina, Italy, Spain, Algeria, USA, South Korea, Russia, Turkey). Participation in the development of a common monitoring protocol for plastic particles in fish stomachs and selected shellfish on the basis of existing fish disease surveys (ToR l). OSPAR Special Request (OSPAR 3/2015). Assistance at different workshops on the role of connectivity in MPAs and development of common indices for biodiversity assessment in European Seas (OSPAR).

Relevant projects: Caulexpan; Mytilos INterreg, 2005-UE project; IP of Marine Biodiversity Atlas 2010 (www.ba.ieo.es\bioatlasmarino); Pinna OAPN http://www.ba.ieo.es/pinna/; Azimut Offshore wind energy 2013; Coconet-MPAs and OWF-2012-2016, Integrated Regional monitoring Implementation Strategy in the South European Seas (IRIS-SES), Actions Plans for Integrated Regional Monitoring Programmes, Coordinated Programmes of Measures and Addressing Data and Knowledge Gaps in Mediterranean Sea: ACTIONMED. Integration of research data to authorities and end-users has been assured by the key role of IEO as the national institution responsible for the implementation of the Marine Strategy Directive Framework in Spanish waters. Moreover, collaborations with local and regional governments have been set up to promote studies on marine litter effects regarding highly touristic regions such as the Balearic Islands.
