Short CV

I am a marine researcher with experience in Marine Ecology and Biology, Biodiversity, and Fisheries. So far, my research has focused on pelagic and deep-sea fishes (population dynamics, foraging strategies, growth, and reproduction), their migratory behavior, and prey-predator interactions as long as the influence of physical-chemical factors on their distribution.

In 2009, I got a fellowship (FPI), funded by the national projects (“Dynamics and structure of the benthopelagic slope ecosystem in two oligotrophic areas from the Mediterranean Sea” – IDEADOS -, CTM2008-04489-C03-01, and “Migrants and Active Flux In the Atlantic Ocean” CTM2012-39587-C04-03) to perform my Ph.D. at the Department of Marine Renewable Resources in the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC, Barcelona, Spain). During the predoctoral phase (2009-2014), I enrolled in the research group Ecology and Conservation of Marine Life Resources, within a new research line on the Ecology of Mesopelagic Fish. I also acquired taxonomical skills to identify diverse plankton taxa and statistical and analytical skills for the trophic characterization of this fish group and performed short stays at different research institutions (SCRIPPS, San Diego, USA; Murdoch University, Perth, Australia; COB and IMEDEA, Balearic Islands).

In 2016, I wrote a project proposal (“Distribution and trophic patterns of the ichthyoplankton community in fjords, channels and offshore locations of the Chilean North Patagonia: effect of environmental variability on larval assemblages”) that was granted for a postdoctoral fellowship funded by the National Commission of Scientific and Technological Research (CONYCIT) of Chile (2017 - 2019) and took part in several cruises. In 2020, I got a postdoctoral contract within the H2020 European project “Sustainable management of mesopelagic resources” (SUMMER), which evaluates the chance of sustainably exploiting the mesopelagic community for effective management practices since there is concern about the repeated collapse of fisheries and redistribution of fish stocks.

I am currently working as part of the project group ESMARES2-TEPESCO to assess and monitor the fishing effects on protected marine areas.
