CV Summary

Montserrat Compa Ferrer graduated with a BS in Environmental Sciences specializing in Geospatial Science from Humboldt State University (2012), MS in Terrestrial Ecology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2014), and MS in Marine Ecology from the Universitat de les Illes Balears (2018). From 2016 to 2019 Montse had a PhD contract at the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) in Baleares (COB-IEO) cofunded by the Regional Government of the Balearic Islands and the European Social Fund 2014–2020, under the advisory of Dra. Salud Deudero. She is an Environmental Scientist and focuses on the ecological impacts of plastic pollution in marine protected areas. At the moment she is a research technician at the COB-IEO participating in a variety of projects that focus on understanding and quantifying plastic pollution in the marine environment (Acuiplastic, MIREIA, Aqua-Lit). Her main research interests include modeling spatial and temporal distributions of marine debris and microplastic ingestion in marine fauna.

Since 2020, Montse is currently working as a research technician for the Plastic Busters MPAs Interreg MED funded project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, working in the IMPACT@SEA research group supervised by Dra. Salud Deudero.
