CV Summary

Julio Díaz graduated in Biology (2017) and Master in Marine Ecology (2018) by the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). Since 2016 has collaborated with the group Ecosistemas Bentónicos y Recursos Demersales (ECOBRED), of the Balearic Center of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (COB-IEO) by participating in the MEDITS oceanographic survey, being responsible of the collection, maintenance and identification of the sponges.

In parallel, he has worked as a technician at the UIB, mainly with sponges and Posidonia oceanica meadows and obtained experience in experimentation using aquaria, scientific diving and biochemical analysis.

At the beginning of 2019, he started a doctorate in the group ECOBRED supervised by Dr. Enric Massutí, cofounded by the Regional Government of the Balearic Islands, the IEO and the European Social Fund 2014–2020, and is nested in action A2.2 of the project LIFE IP INTERMARES. The PhD it’s focused on the taxonomy and diversity of the sponges of the Balearic Islands and their role and effect on the fishing resources of the islands.
