Short CV Valentina Fagiano is a postdoctoral researcher within the IMPACT@SEA research group at the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC). She is a member of the PlasticFlow research team aimed to generate groundbreaking scientific knowledge on the transfer of plastics across marine habitats and biota, as well as their effects and fate in the marine environment. ![]() Her research focuses on the distribution, composition and ecological impacts of marine plastics, with particular emphasis on biologically mediated pathways of microplastic transport and their interactions with marine carbon cycling. She holds a PhD in Marine Ecology from the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). She was awarded a competitive predoctoral fellowship by the Government of the Balearic Islands in 2022 and received the IV Premio Tesis Doctoral Relevante del CSIC in 2026 in recognition of her doctoral research. Valentina holds a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology and a Master's degree in Molecular Biotechnology from the University of Turin (Italy), as well as a second Master's degree in Marine Ecology from the University of the Balearic Islands (Spain). ![]() Update in August 2026 |
